EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
REGULATORY UPDATE
EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR): Our Packaging Compliance Approach
Supporting transparent, traceable and responsible packaging for synthetic brush filament supplied to European customers
The PPWR applies generally from 12 August 2026. Our documentation package brings together packaging specifications, material information and available supplier or laboratory evidence for our synthetic filament packaging system. |
What Is the PPWR?
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste, commonly known as the PPWR, establishes a harmonised framework for packaging placed on the European Union market. It covers packaging sustainability, composition, minimisation, recyclability, recycled content, labelling and related documentation obligations across the packaging life cycle.
The Regulation entered into force on 11 February 2025 and applies generally from 12 August 2026. Several requirements are introduced in phases, with additional design-for-recycling, recycled-content, reuse and labelling provisions becoming applicable on later dates.
Why Packaging Documentation Matters
For manufacturers, importers and brand owners, compliance is not demonstrated by a single generic certificate. A reliable PPWR file is built from traceable information covering each packaging component, supported where appropriate by supplier declarations, technical specifications and laboratory reports.
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 provides for technical documentation and an EU Declaration of Conformity. The final responsibility depends on the role of each economic operator and on whose name or trademark the packaging or packaged product is placed on the EU market. We therefore cooperate with European customers by providing the packaging information and supporting evidence needed for their own compliance assessment.
Our Synthetic Filament Packaging System
Our standard packaging concept for synthetic brush filament is designed as a manually separable system. The configuration normally includes:
· a polyethylene (PE) sleeve or film around each filament bundle;
· elastic rubber bands used to secure the bundle;
· a paper identification card; and
· an outer corrugated paperboard carton used for transport.
The exact packaging dimensions and component weights vary by filament length, bundle size, order quantity and customer packing specification. Shipment-specific weights should therefore be confirmed in the applicable packing specification or packaging bill of materials.
Key Areas Covered by Our Documentation
Material composition and technical data. The documentation identifies the principal packaging materials and records available technical information for PE, elastic bands, paper cards, corrugated paperboard and printing ink where used.
Restricted substances and heavy metals. Available reports include relevant screening or testing for lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium, together with other chemical parameters where covered by the supplier or laboratory report. Evidence is assessed component by component; an unsupported blanket claim is not made.
PFAS and other chemical evidence. The packaging is intended for non-food-contact industrial filament. Available PFAS, POPs, REACH and halogen reports are retained as supporting information for the tested materials.
Recyclability. The principal components are not permanently laminated together and can be manually separated. Corrugated paperboard and paper cards may enter paper recycling streams, while clean PE film may enter flexible-plastic streams where local collection systems accept it. Rubber bands should be removed before paper or plastic recycling.
Recycled-content information. No recycled-content percentage is claimed unless it is supported by an applicable supplier declaration or other verifiable evidence.
Evidence-Based Compliance
Our approach is evidence-based. Laboratory and supplier documents are retained in their original form, including the original report number, applicant or supplier name, tested sample description, test method and result. The reports support only the materials and parameters actually tested and should not be interpreted as an EU authority certification of every finished package.
Where a customer requires additional data, such as finished packaging weights, recycled-content percentages or heavy-metal evidence for a component not covered by the current file, we will coordinate with the relevant packaging supplier and update the technical file where practicable.
